Year 5 (ages 10 to 11)
In Year 5, your child's written narrations will become longer and more structured. They will also begin reading more of their own books (silently and aloud) without the help of a parent. This year they also start with Plutarch's lives, Geometry, General History and Latin!

English (Writing, Dictation, Composition, Grammar)Writing: Transcribe 2 lines from Shakespeare play each day using this card as a model. Dictation: Prepare two pages each week from Reading or History books, then write one dictated paragraph. Composition: Daily oral narrations. Two written narrations of 9 to 12 sentences (up to two paragraphs) every week (from Citizenship or Reading). A letter with family news per term. Start typing lessons at TypingClub. English (Recitations)Learn to recite the following over the year: FOR CHRISTIANS:
ANY FAITH:
NON-CHRISTIANS: Replace the Psalm and Bible passage recitations with readings from your own faith or from your child's Reading books. Replace hymns with songs from your own faith or secular songs. |

Foreign LanguagesBelow are the languages Charlotte Mason recommended, however feel free to swop these out for more relevant languages from your culture. Children should be starting one new language this year, preferably Latin. French (Foreign Language I) Primary French Course, by O. Siepmann Parent reads Lesson aloud, translating with the children's help, and children afterwards narrate in French. Child should also continue writing in French. Latin (Foreign Language II) First Latin Course by Scott and Jones. Each lesson to be followed by narration. |
BrushdrawingDo watercolour brushdrawings as per the Nature Study and History lesson plans, as well as scenes from Reading books.
