Year 4 (ages 9 to 10)

In Year 4, your child moves into Form II in the Charlotte Mason curriculum. They begin written narration and start a few new subjects such as dictation, composition, grammar, citizenship, Shakespeare and French History.

English (Writing, Dictation, Composition, Grammar)Writing: Transcribe 2 lines from Shakespeare play each day using this card as a model. Dictation: Prepare two pages each week from Reading books, then write one dictated paragraph. Composition: Daily oral narrations of Reading books. One written narration of a paragraph every two weeks. Grammar: First Grammar Lessons by Charlotte Mason

English (Recitations)Learn to recite the following over the year: FOR CHRISTIANS:
ANY FAITH:
NON-CHRISTIANS: Replace the Psalm and Bible passage recitations with readings from your own faith or from your child's Reading books. Replace hymns with songs from your own faith or secular songs. |

Foreign LanguagesIn Year 4, your child will continue with just one foreign language (Charlotte Mason recommended French) with Latin being added from Year 5.
